Administrator: Royal Commission must examine the whole construction industry
Statement from CFMEU administrator, Michael Crosby
The CFMEU will fully cooperate with the Victorian Royal Commission into construction. Significant public attention has been focused on the CFMEU, yet anyone who knows this industry understands that misconduct is not confined to one organisation. If this Royal Commission is serious about uncovering the truth, it must follow the evidence wherever it leads.
That means examining the conduct of developers, head contractors, subcontractors, labour hire operators and anyone else who has profited from unlawful or unethical behaviour.
The CFMEU has been calling out wage theft, sham contracting, phoenixing, safety breaches and the exploitation of vulnerable workers for years now. These practices rob workers of their pay, put lives at risk and undermine honest businesses doing the right thing.
Governments, law enforcement and regulators must shine the spotlight across the entire industry. Victorian workers deserve nothing less.
