The Morrison Government has given a green light to wage theft and further casualisation of the workforce in securing passage of a gutted version of their IR Omnibus Bill through the Senate today.

“Morrison’s cynical use of the pandemic to give a green light to wage theft and casualisation is a shameful attack on working people,” said Dave Noonan, CFMEU National Construction Secretary.

“The laws passed today will allow employers to determine who is a casual employee and mean that workers who seek conversion to full-time have no capacity to challenge a refusal in the Fair Work Commission.”

“Labor, The Greens, Jacqui Lambie and Rex Patrick all stood up for Australian workers today to ensure the government could not pass measures that would have further undermined wages and conditions.”

“The defeat of the Government’s proposed measures to create greenfields agreements which would have allowed workers to be locked into substandard wages and conditions for 8 years was particularly welcome.”

“The other crossbench senators have effectively greenlighted the Morrison Government’s agenda on wage theft and casualisation.”

“Australian workers will not forget who stood up for them in the face of the Morrison Government’s cynical attack on their wages and conditions.”
