The coronial inquest into the death of Jorge Castillo-Riffo at the Royal Adelaide Hospital construction site resumes this morning at 10am.
The Coroner has already heard extremely disturbing evidence earlier in the year about Jorge’s death.
This morning, senior representatives of Jorge’s employer, and of the joint venture running the project, will be called to give evidence.
Later this week the SafeWork Inspectors who investigated Jorge’s death, and whose investigation led to a botched prosecution, will also be called to give evidence.
CFMEU Assistant National Secretary (Construction & General Division), Andrew Sutherland will attend the court today. He said fatal accidents on South Australian building sites had to stop.
“The CFMEU will be relentless in pursuing employers and corporations whose actions or inactions lead to the unnecessary and tragic deaths of constructions workers.
“We are also determined to hold SafeWork SA to account for the shocking failings which led to the prosecution being discontinued. Workers are injured and killed when SafeWork fails to properly enforce the law, and this must stop”.
